RGB was a slippery slope. We knew this was coming.
Expect little Intel & AMD action figures made from 2-cent plastic next. B-tier celebrity voice-overs. An online-only animated miniseries that you can only watch after clipping your UPC barcode and mailing it to some obscure Intel or AMD P.O. box in Missouri.
Intel did sell those multi colored clean room suit people from the Pentium MMX days. I still own one and have been dragging it around with me for the last couple decades.
Of course that doesn't excuse the shitshow of this new box.
Ironically both of these things equally represent Intel. 20-25 years ago it was an Intel cleanroom engineer. Today it's a box stamped with some movies franchise. Might as well bundle in a pack of sausages. I mean everyone loves sausages too right?
And while you're at it, since Intel runs so hot now compared to AMD, use the processor's IHS as your fry top and cook your sausages at blazing hot and fast speeds while also heating your home in the midst of a nippy and bitter cold winter.
It's crap packaging. The one that doesn't lend itself for recycling because it is a composite of paper/cardboard and some plastic film. Just crap for the landfill...
Yeah, Intel is pretty much the laughing stock among the sales reps at most computer supply stores (e.g. Micro Center) now. They know Intel's overrated fodder and they inwardly laugh when the last lingering, low-information, basement-dwelling fanboys insist on them.
PR team needs to be fired ASAP. WTF is this trash ? MCU itself is a joke, that Avengers game is an even bigger joke, with some idiotic forced protag and GaaS. Intel using this for selling ... damn it.
MCU is a joke? Pretty sure it's one of the most popular and successful run in entertainment history, but 8 definitely agree about the game. It's looking pretty shite.
After Winter Soldier, they went all comedy popcorn flicks and with cheap CGI all over the place. Endgame was a big sham and it broke all records because they spent millions on marketing alone triple digits. And it was awful movie full of plot holes and plot armor characters. Cap Marvel needs no intro on her vile stance on men and etc and they chose her as the mascot for MCU going forward.
Just because you are OK with emasculating comments and actors dumping on their fanbase and cherished/nostalgic IP doesnt mean everyone else is OK with it.
Just because a lunatic fringe of misogynist right-wing ballsacks are hell-bent on finding trumped-up reasons to rage about Brie Larson, doesn't mean anyone else gives a damn. 🤷♂️
Oh noes! Your fragile masculinity was damaged by some comment made by a celeb! The horror of having to endure such a thing! You nerd boys are so insecure about yourselves.
Intel is still kind for single threaded performance and games. If someone wanted to build a gaming focused rig, I would recommend to them Intel over AMD. Intel can provide a measurably smoother (if not by much) experience in games.
As of Zen 2, this really isn't the case any more. There are some legacy game engines that simply run better on Intel CPUs, but that's less and less relevant as time goes on.
Due to the cache structure, Intel is ahead in most games at the high end.
It still is pretty pointless to buy anything else than a Ryzen 3600 for most people, but a 10600K outperforms anything AMD has in games, especially when overclocked.
True but it only manifests if you are pushing very high FPS. Like you were eluding simply down to latencies of which AMD has higher. Of course I am wanting to see how this looks with Zen3 as i suspect this will be improved. I'm not sure a chiplet will ever beat a monolithic in latencies but then Intel will eventually have to move to chiplets.
Show me a review of zen 2 where it is consistently faster then intel, or provides better 1% numbers then intel.
You wont find it, because as much as some would love it, AMD is still slower then intel in games. Zen 3 may fix this, but zen 2 is not a faster gaming processor.
Sure, in some situations where you are going for max framerate at low resolution Id agree against Zen 2. Yet Zen 3 is right around the corner and I dont see Intel retaining even that.
For some weird reason, this kinda stuff doesn't bother me. This is just someone at Intel having some fun. I have the 9900K dodecahedron packaging and I love that too.
I guess that makes one of you. :) In all seriousness though, it is just a box so as long as the price is competitive and the performance is okay, it really doesn't matter that much. I think most of us are just surprised that Intel is using a superhero partnership thing given how deeply unpopular superheroes in general with anyone but tween boys and the occasional, exceptionally strange adult male fan. I mean we're talking about a niche product (a retail boxed CPU) appealing to a niche subgroup within that (superhero fans). What are the odds that one of those fans is an adult and has enough income to invest in a processor or can convince his elderly parent to make the purchase for him as a gift? Honestly, if that were my son, I'd throw him out on his worthless butt and tell him to get his stinky 35 year old self a job instead of crusting up my basement with his obesity and lack of interest in finding paid work other than driving once in a while for Uber while dreaming of playing video games "professionally." It might be the wakeup call his RGB-festooned worthless self needs to sell the kiddie comics and actually enter adulthood.
We know who this is targeted at, of course. "Content creators" who will be given free CPUs on condition they add the shiny box to their background paraphernalia and pimp Intel/MCU at every opportunity.
You guys are all MISSING THE POINT! The more interesting side of this is what happens to the TV & movies...
"I can't get into the Hydra server." "Look carefully, it's an AMD chip and doesn't have trusted execution! Use this workaround. Good thing they didn't use an Intel chip."
Or "There's no way we can scan the database for that face in just 20 minutes!" "Don't worry, I upgraded the storage to Intel Optane last week. Don't worry, it'll be fast enough."
I could understand this if it was some special made Intel NUC with some kind of Marvel design. Just a box for a processor, dumb. Hell, I would design a water block for the processor with a plexiglass cube top with LEDs that makes it look like a tesseract would be better than just a box.
Ugly AF. There is in fact one Disney IP that would suit for this kind of marketing, and its called TRON. But nothing else.
If i would buy one of those i would make a yt video like: "I set fire to my Intel Core i<whatever> box and this is what happend". Then showing a 3 hour slow mo video of that box burning to the ground. :)
That feeling when you failed at pouring more of your vast profit margins from having a near-monopoly on several market sectors into actually making better products, so you find other things to blow money on instead.

Good news everyone! Nothing is wrong with CPU performance and industry leadership going forwards.Oh, and check out this shiny new distraction.
Snark off: It's official. I'm embarrassed for Intel. This also bodes poorly for the next few years of CPU releases.
