CSMR, I agree but there are plenty of people who don't know what they are talking about who say the 264ppi of the iPad is "not true retina" so there always will be a niche market. My desktop is the old 1050p standard and that looks good for a 20 inch display.
As much as I agree with you, I think we would have said the same about 1080p or QHD on 15 inch laptops back in 2008. So, I think there's a good chance it will happen in the future, however absurd it may be.
Says somebody who obviously either doesn't have good eyes or hasn't used one.
I'm on 3200x1800 on a 15" screen and could *just about* do with a tiny resolution boost for smoothing out the lines on a few pieces of very small text. Furthermore, I still need AA and expect I'd need to wait for 8k before I don't, if such a thing is possible.
You might mock this but it's true. 1080p is good, but for people with good eyes you shouldn't mock it until you've tried it.

They're aiming for mid 2014, so there's still 4-6 months to sort it out :)crimsondoor - Monday, January 6, 2014 - link

Ya perfectly good but could be better. I was 450-500 PPI on my laptop before I am satisfied. 600-650 on my phone.Drumsticks - Monday, January 6, 2014 - link
What.Do you even know why you'd want those numbers?
Drumsticks - Monday, January 6, 2014 - link
Also... you'd need like 8k. 8K... on a 15.6" laptop to get 550ppi.That is absurd, if you hadn't noticed.

That's great. Now why isn't Toshiba offering a GTX 780M with it? It's like they WANT me to buy an MSI.
